The fuller story . . .
“The difference between the right word and the almost right word
is the difference between lightning and the lightning bug.”
~ MARK TWAIN
I love how words turn into stories whether in books, movies or music. Always an avid reader and fan of romance, thrillers, and horror stories, I write sensual contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and thrillers with strong romantic elements. My stories feature smart, sexy characters of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
I graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature, went on to obtain a law degree and pass the bar exam in two states. My passion for the creative arts led me to practice intellectual property, entertainment, and media law (representing GRAMMY® Award winning singers/songwriters, Fortune 500 companies, and cutting-edge entrepreneurs) for over two decades before I decided to start producing my own creative works instead of simply representing others who did.
As a former practicing attorney, I’m passionate about helping creative artists become savvy entrepreneurs. In my other life, I put my expertise to use as a business strategist and entrepreneur coach. Following the advice I’ve given clients for years, I’m building an indie author portfolio designed to bring you hours of reading pleasure.
Naturally, I love to write about lawyers, but the athlete in me ensures I also infuse my love of sports into my works. As the mother of two strong-willed and determined daughters (who are also sports enthusiasts, athletes, and creative artists), I find it almost impossible not to write about headstrong, independent women.
My debut novels showcase my penchant for strong, contemporary women and my passion for love, law, and football. Each of my novels, as well as the anthology containing my first novella, hit Amazon Best Seller lists. In addition, for my first novel (Counselor Undone), I was honored with 2016 Emma Awards for Debut Author of the Year and for Interracial Romance of the Year. My second novel, Quarterback Casanova, debuted as an Amazon Best Seller in Multicultural Romance and Sports Genre Fiction, and won the 2017 Emma Award for Book of the Year.
In 2013, I was a Top 10 Finalist in the prestigious, global Harlequin® So You Think You Can Write contest with my first manuscript (a contemporary romance targeted for the Harlequin Desire line). Harlequin editors narrowed 650+ first chapter entries from the U.S., U.K., Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa down to the Top 50 semifinalists. Then, they reviewed the complete manuscripts of the Top 50 semifinalists and narrowed those down to the Top 10. Online public voting decided the winner. Although I didn’t win top honors, I consider my finalist’s berth in a contest of that magnitude a major achievement.
To stay abreast of what’s going on in the publishing industry and to hone my craft to bring you story excellence, I’m an active member of Romance Writers of America® (RWA), including their Published Author Network (PAN), their Kiss of Death Romantic Suspense Chapter (KOD), and their Cultural, Interracial & Multicultural Special Interest Chapter (CIMRWA). Pursuing my passion of advocating for mainstream distribution of romantic fiction featuring multicultural protagonists by “own voices” authors, I’m working on a upcoming platform to help readers find the literary smorgasbord of delicious romantic works written by authors of color. Look for Diversity in Romance™ to come your way soon!
